So, how were Christmas retail sales in the U.S. -- really? With the public companies reporting sales increases, which were less than the jump in the jewelry consumer price index, there was much room for improvement. However, independent jewelers may have had a little better luck with their sales and cost controls. Three independent jewelers in the New York metro area went into Christmas season 2011 with cautious optimism, (watch their interviews from November 23) and now they share sales results for what was their busiest time of the year. In this week's Rapaport Weekly News Broadcast, we hear from Robin McCormick Jewelry Design Studio in Katonah, NY,  Daniele Trissi of Scarsdale, NY, and Manfredi Jewels in Greenwich, CT.

India's economy is having some growing pains especially as the dollar strengthens against the rupee. Rapaport's Avi Krawitz speaks with Sanjay Kothari, the vice chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export promotion Council (GJEPC), on the sidelines of the Signature IIJS show in Mumbai.
