RAPAPORT... The Russian branch of grading lab GCI,  Aspeco N.V. of Antwerp and Oleg Skvortsov are key sponsors in an upcoming chess match between Vladimir Kramnik of Russia and Levon Aronian of Armenia. The Zurich Chess Club, which will host the event, described the six-game match as a "diamond-studded" encounter in thanks to the sponsors and  also because Aronian is ranked the world's second-top chess player and  Kramnik is ranked in third place.

Players will meet from April 21 to April 28 at the Hotel Savoy Baur en Ville at Paradeplatz, the venue of many famous chess events in the past. Kramnik and Aronian are the winners of the two most prestigious tournaments recently. While the 36-year-old Kramnik gained a convincing victory at the London Chess Classic in December, the 29-year-old Aronian has just won the famous tournament in Wijk aan Zee with an outstanding score.  The Zurich Chess challenge will be the first encounter in the history of the game where the two players will face each other with a rating above the 2800 limit.
