Japan's Polished Diamond Imports -7% in April

RAPAPORT... Japan’s polished diamond imports fell 7 percent year on year to $56.7 million in April, ‎Momozawa reported citing the Finance Ministry. By volume, the imports fell 24 percent ‎to 121,365 carats while the average price of the goods increased 22 percent to $468 per ‎carat.

Polished diamond imports from India grew 27 percent year on year to $30 million, imports from Belgium fell 6 percent to $10.7 million, while imports from Israel rose 8 percent to $5.1 million. Polished imports from Hong Kong decreased 68 percent to $3.2 million during the month.

‎During the first four months of the year, Japan’s polished imports rose 12 percent to ‎‎$273 million while the volume of imports declined 19 percent to 590,447 carats.
