Two Fatalities at Gem Diamonds Ghaghoo Mine

RAPAPORT... Two contractors have died at Gem Diamonds' prospective Ghaghoo mine in Botswana following a cave in at the face of a tunnel development.
The incident has been fully investigated and the department of mines has given permission for the project to continue with additional safety precautions put in place.
"The company again extends its condolences to the families of the two deceased and commits itself to continuing to strive for the highest safety standards for its employees and contractors at all of its operations," said Gem Diamonds' chief executive, Clifford Elphick.
Gem Diamonds noted that the adverse ground conditions together with the incident will likely result in a delaying of production until the first half of 2014, even though the construction of the plant as well as the infrastructure is on time and on budget.
