Press Release: As premier sponsor of the Jewellery News Asia (JNA) Awards, Rio Tinto congratulated the shortlisted finalists announced at a press conference in Hong Kong.

The inaugural JNA Awards recognizes innovators and leaders in the jewelry industry focusing on areas such as manufacturing, branding, retail, sustainability and outstanding contribution.

“We’re extremely pleased to see such an international flavor in the finalist list, which together with the large number of entries, positions the JNA Awards as an important milestone for the global jewelry industry,” according to Rita Maltez, the manager of Rio Tinto Diamonds, Greater China Representative Office.

Rio Tinto established its sales and marketing representative office in Hong Kong in March 2010 in recognition of the growing importance of the Chinese diamond jewelry market. Since that time it has successfully partnered with premier retailer Chow Tai Fook to develop a new market for diamond fashion jewelry that is complementary to the existing bridal market.

Innovative designers, manufacturers and retailers can readily embrace the fashion jewelry opportunity in Greater China.

“From mining to manufacturing, marketing and retail, there must be a collaborative effort to deliver on changing consumer needs,” Maltez said. “As established and emerging leaders of innovation in the gem and jewelry industry, the recipients of the JNA Awards are well placed to capture the opportunities.”

Winners of the JNA Awards will be announced in September during the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair.
