RAPAPORT... Jewelers of America (JA) named Robert B. Headley as its vice president and chief operating officer (COO).  The new title recognizes his strategic and developmental contributions to the association during the previous year.

"Rob has been instrumental in overseeing the implementation of Jewelers of America's strategic plan and contributing to the development and continued evolution of Jewelers of America for the future," said Matthew A. Runci, JA's president. "The Jewelers of America executive committee and I want his work to be properly recognized, and 'vice president and COO' better reflects the comprehensive role that Rob has been fulfilling since the beginning of this year."

Headley joined JA in February of 2009, with the directive to integrate the association's strategic plan with ongoing operations. During his tenure as COO, he helped orchestrate the smooth and successful merger of Jewelry Information Center -- establishing it as JA's consumer education arm; and he has taken on a prominent leadership role in JA's legislative advocacy, giving the association's jewelry retail and supplier members a voice in Washington, D.C.

Headley also represents JA on influential industry committees, including the standards committee of the Responsible Jewellery Council.

Prior to joining JA, Headley was vice president of technical services at Tiffany & Co., where he oversaw the brand's quality control standards. He also spent eight years at Avon Products and was a naval officer.
