RAPAPORT... Rio Tinto has appointed Alan Davies as chief executive of its diamonds and minerals group in a series of management changes taking place at the mining giant. Davies will replace Harry Kenyon-Slaney who was appointed Rio Tinto’s energy executive. The appointments will be effective September 1, 2012. Davies previously served as president of Rio Tinto’s iron ore international operations and will retain responsibility for the Simandou iron ore project. Rio Tinto’s Dampier salt business will also transfer to the diamonds and minerals group. "I welcome Alan to the executive committee, and acknowledge the leading role he has played in developing partnerships with the government of Guinea, Chalco and the International Finance Corporation, and leading the work to develop the Simandou project," said Tom Albanese, Rio Tinto's chief executive.
