RAPAPORT... A Stars of Africa floating diamond ring, by Royal Asscher, fetched $16,000 at a private event in support of raising awareness of the Global Equality Fund and the Elton John AIDS Foundation in Washington DC this past week. While the Stars of Africa collection offers several design variations and price points, this particular ring contained 0.60 carats of diamonds that were floating in silicone in a sapphire globe (pictured). Lita Asscher, the president of Royal Asscher of America, said, “As a family and as a company we at Royal Asscher consider it of paramount importance to support important causes that benefit all of humanity and I am proud that our company’s jewelry can contribute to such an important and well-deserving cause such as global equality.” The event was hosted by the Human Rights Campaign and actress Sharon Stone. Guests in attendance also included Elton John and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The Global Equality Fund was founded by Clinton in December 2011 to support programs that advance human rights of of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons around the world.
