RAPAPORT... The deadline to enter the International Pearl Design Competition for 2012-2013 is September 3. The purpose of this competition is to celebrate and recognize design excellence of all types of cultured pearls under the authority of the Cultured Pearl Association of America. (Read details.) Several awards will be given including, the president’s trophy, the highest honor, a luster award for the “most marketable” of all entries, designer’s award for imagination and originality, the brilliance award illustrating the spectrum of pearl colors, an orient award for a new found affinity, the visionary award redefining the iconic pearl strand, a wedding day pearls award for a “fantasy wedding” appeal using cultured pearls and the fashion award for the best fun, fresh and modern design. Winners will be notified by November 1, 2012 so they have time to make their piece for presentation at the 2013 AGTA and JCK Vegas shows. Awards and commendations will be announced during the presentation party on February 6, 2013 at the AGTA Gem Show.
