RAPAPORT... The Fairtrade Foundation and the Alliance for Responsible Mining will participate in the National Wedding Show in London, September 28 to 30 at Earls Court, to  build upon their mission of engaging the bridal market with Fairtrade & Fairmined gold. The Fairtrade Foundation is planning a competition where jewelry designers will be on hand to help design a bespoke engagement or wedding ring.

Recently, the first Fairtrade & Fairmined certified gold arrived at Ingle & Rhode and S&P Trading, both in the U.K.,  from The Comunidad Aurifera Relave S.A (The Relave Gold Community) or AURELSA, in Peru. AURELSA received Fairtrade & Fairmined gold certification in May 2012 and is only the fifth gold producer in the world to obtain Fairtrade & Fairmined status. fairtrade

Tim Ingle, co-founder of Ingle & Rhode, said, ''This historic first shipment reflects the continued increase in consumer demand for jewelry made with certified Fairtrade & Fairmined gold, and AURELSA will significantly improve availability of this type of product to both jewelers and consumers.''

Additionally, Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery was commissioned to design certified Fairtrade & Fairmined gold earrings inspired by the fairtrade mark from a customer who was passionate about fairtrade issues. These handmade 18-karat rose and yellow gold earrings were set with a brilliant-cut topaz and a brilliant-cut peridot, which complement the colors used in the fairtrade mark.

Jeweler Pravins created a collection of Fairtrade & Fairmined  gold jewelry with seven contemporary, classic pendant designs. Rachel Helen Designs also launched an ethical alternative to conventional gold for wedding and engagement with the new Briar Rose collection, a selection of limited-edition wedding and engagement rings that can be set with any stone and made with 18-karat Fairtrade & Fairmined gold.
