RAPAPORT... The Fairtrade Foundation and the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) are reviewing the standards that govern the certification for Fairtrade and Fairmined gold. This review could lead to adjustments made for existing standards, using the experience gained since fair trade gold first went on sale in 2011, and to widen the opportunities for disadvantaged miners, for example, by extending the standards beyond Latin America to Africa and Asia and for commercial partners offering products made from certified metal.

The standards are open for public consultation until October 7, 2012. Visit www.fairtrade.net/standards or www.communitymining.org to review the proposed amendments or provide feedback on these standards.
