RAPAPORT... The Surat Diamond Association (SDA) will launch an online marketplace to connect small diamantaires who are based in Surat with buyers in India and abroad.

"Unlike big diamond and jewelry companies, small diamantaires do not have an online platform to sell their goods. They either sell through the traders in Surat or visit the Mumbai diamond market. The online marketplace will provide them with an opportunity to directly connect with the end-users," said SDA's president Dinesh Navadia.

The SDA platform will give small diamantaires an opportunity to earn value for their goods, while consumers will be able to buy them at lower rates than those of traders who sell their goods to jewelry companies with heavy profit margins.

The platform will showcase an assortment of diamonds of different shapes, sizes and cuts manufactured in Surat by small diamantaires for consumers. Navadia noted that assortment of stones ranges from stars and melees to bigger diamonds above one carat, as well as solitaires.

Surat's diamond industry has more than 2,500 small diamond manufacturers
