Press Release: The Diamond Council of America congratulates member Gem Shopping Network for the prestigious honor of designing and presenting First Lady Michelle Obama with a custom created pearl necklace in Washington DC on May 15, 2013. The triple strand, hand‐strung, 10mm white pearl necklace included a unique interlocking “SA” clasp made of 14-karat gold, designed by an inhouse designer at the Gem Shopping Network.

The necklace was designed for presentation at the 101st First Lady’s Luncheon. The luncheon paid tribute to Mrs. Obama’s dedication and work with military families and her program to encourage healthy eating and exercise. Obama necklace

“The necklace clasp was designed to be symbolic of Michelle Obama’s ‘Joining Forces’ Initiative dedicated to caring for our U.S. servicemen and women and their families,” said P.J. Lynch, the CEO of Gem Shopping Network.  Lynch also worked with Claude Markarian, the vice president of the gemological and jewelry division, to create a white pearl and black agate necklace for the 1,800 attendees, in coordination with this year’s black and white theme. Completing the honor,  Lynch and  Claude Markarian, presented Mrs. Obama with the necklace designed for her and enjoyed the opportunity to share with her the inspiration behind the unique clasp.
