RAPAPORT... Finalists and winners of this year’s Couture Design Awards were announced to an enthusiastic crowd of nearly a thousand designers, retailers and editors in Las Vegas on June 2. Eleven categories of jewelry and four categories of watches were awarded, as well as the Couture Human Spirit Award. This year’s Human Spirit Award recipient was David Yurman, whose mentorship and generosity of spirit continue to benefit the watch and jewelry industry. “I can’t accept this award by myself,” David said from the stage before calling up his wife Sybil. “Sybil, my love, my muse.”
“Couture is the finest event in the world,” noted Couture Show Director Gannon Brousseau from the stage. “It’s not the biggest, it doesn’t have the most brands, but what Couture does have is all of you, this wonderful community.”
Tomasz Donocik, part of Stephen Webster’s “Rock Vault” showing at the show, won for both the diamonds above $20,000 as well as the Debuting at Couture category noted from the stage, “Without Stephen Webster and the team over there, I would not be here.”
