RAPAPORT... Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. and the Yellowknife Community Foundation signed a three-year sponsorship agreement in support of the annual Forever in our Heart’s fundraising gala and the mining firm will also donate $5,000 a year to the community group. For the past five years, the Foundation has organized the gala for Yellowknife residents  to break with the monotony of the cold, dark winter season and create an evening of music, dancing, great food and to bid on items up for auction.

Each year, Diavik, in cooperation with Crossworks Manufacturing Ltd. has donated a diamond for the gala’s diamond draw, which is held at the end of the evening. The upcoming gala is scheduled for February 8, 2014 at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife and it carries a perfect theme to melt away the winter cold,  “Midnight at the Oasis.”

“Diavik is very proud to build upon our support for the Foundation. Similar to the Foundation, our goal at Diavik is to leave a legacy of lasting local benefits,” said Diavik Diamond Mines' president, Marc Cameron. ''With this announcement, Diavik’s funding and in-kind support for the gala, which includes diamonds and other auction item donations and staff volunteers, is approximately $125,000. Additionally, at the 2013 gala, the company announced the creation of the Diavik Community Scholarship, a $25,000 endowment fund administered by the Foundation.''

Tom Hall, the co-chair of the Yellowknife Community Foundation’s gala committee, said,  “The organizing committee is very pleased with Diavik’s continuing support of the Forever in our Hearts Gala and the Yellowknife Community Foundation. An evening as spectacular and unique as this would simply not be possible without the support of major community sponsors like Diavik. The much anticipated draw for the always stunning diamond is a highlight of the evening.”

The Yellowknife Community Foundation was created in 1993 to provide residents and friends a means of supporting community projects with a simple concept - that people working together can make a difference. Donations are placed in a capital fund and that money, invested over time, will grow and continue to have an impact long after the original gift is made.
