Christie's Sale of Magnificent Jewels Achieves $111M

RAPAPORT... Christie's Hong Kong sale of magnificent jewels achieved a total of $111,337,708 and was 86 percent sold by lot.

Vickie Sek, the director of Christie's Asia jewelry and jadeite department, said, “Having achieved the highest total ever for a jewelry auction in Asia, the sale saw four jewels sell over $5 million and 27 jewels over $1 million. Asian clients bid competitively with collectors from all over the world and helped achieve world record prices for a ruby necklace, an orangy pink diamond and a pair of natural pearl ear pendants.”  record prices diamonds

The top lot of the sale was a diamond riviere necklace of 104.84 total carat weight, which sold fold for $8,144,064, followed by a world record price for a ruby necklace by Etcetera that achieved $6,402,240. The top two lots were purchased by an Asian private.

Other top lots included a 13.21-carat oval-shaped Burmese ruby ring that achieved a price of $5,966,784, a magnificent diamond necklace by Harry Winston that sold for $5,095,872 and an 12.85-carat, VVS1, oval-shaped fancy intense orangy-pink diamond ring (pictured), which achieved a record price for that color of diamond at $4,950,720 or $385,000 per carat, according to Christie's.
