RAPAPORT... The first tender of rough diamonds from Zimbabwe to be held in Europe following the release of sanctions will take place at the Antwerp Diamond Tender Facility from December 11 to 16. The tender offers about 300,000 carats from Marange Resources, Diamond Mining Company (DMC), Anjin Investments and Jinan and Kusena Diamonds.

“We want to ensure that beyond meeting the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme requirement of securing the sector, that the process by which our diamonds are mined, marketed and logistically moved to other countries has the same level of transparency as those marketed elsewhere in the world,” said Walter Chidhakwa, Zimbabwe’s Mines Minister, during the recent meeting with the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) in Harare.

AWDC is convinced that the influx of rough supply from  Zimbabwe should significantly impact market transparency, contributing to the sustainable social and economic development of Zimbabwe. The addition of Marange diamonds into the global pipeline will further reinforce Antwerp's leadership position in the rough diamond trade, where already 84 percent of all rough diamonds are being traded, according to the group.
