Press Release: Govind Dholakia, the chairman of Shree Ramkrishna (SRK) Exports Pvt. Ltd., was invited by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) as a guest speaker. In 1964, Dholakia began his journey as a sole diamond craftsman and today he is leading a company of more than 5,000 family members (SRK’s employees). It was the day where the best management team met the best technology team. A few months back, Dr. A.S. Kiran Kumar, the director of the Space Applications Centre in Ahmedabad, visited the SRK office in Surat. He was highly impressed on observing the most advanced technology implemented and was so inspired by this empire that he arranged for a meeting with Dholakia. Not only is Dholakia an exceptionally successful entrepreneur but is a visionary and philanthropist who has contributed immensely in uplifting communities and people in the state of Gujarat. Kumar invited Dholakia to share his life’s journey on “Entrepreneurship: - Wonders of Traditional Wisdom” with the scientists at ISRO. A man with barely primary education to his credit addressed 150 scientists of ISRO who have earned many doctorate degrees in the most mysterious fields of space science. There is only a four year difference between the commencement of the journeys of the guest and the host organization and today they both have created benchmarks in their respective fields.
The successful strategy of both lies in the self-sufficiency required to invent their own principles and to move ahead. During the session, ISRO scientists confessed that other countries’ space laboratories refused to assist them and that made forced them be self-reliant and to develop on their own. Dholakia, hailing from a family of farmers in the Amreli district of Gujarat, addressed the audience on how he used his traditional knowledge, ethics and principles to build his company from a small partnership firm to a $600 million company. He shares his entire journey of learning from his experiences, his beliefs and value system. The audience also asked the question on the term “integrity,” which Dholakia believes as the most “auspicious” word of his life and the promising term that has made him what he is today. Moreover, this past month, Dholakia was invited by IIM Ahmedabad (the topmost B school of India) as a guest lecturer. This year SRK Export is celebrating its 50 years of integrity.
