Press Release: The Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) Group of Companies  will host the largest diamond pavilion it has ever held at the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, which will take place from June 19 to 22, 2014 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. The pavilion, which will feature 68 diamond companies, has expanded to 1,200 square meters, up from 1,040 square meters last year. There will also be more than 30 Israeli diamond companies exhibiting throughout the show.

The Israel Diamond Pavilion is located in the Diamond Pavilion in Halls 3BC and Concourse. In addition to expanded space for all exhibitors, the Israeli pavilion will this year feature a central lounge serving refreshments to both buyers and Israeli exhibitors. Buyers will also be able to search IDI’s “Find Your Diamond" system, a database of all Israeli exhibitors’ offerings at the show.

The June Hong Kong show is very popular among diamond buyers and exhibitors. There will be more than 450 diamond companies representing Antwerp, Israel, India, Thailand, the U.S. and individual exhibitors. This year the Israeli Pavilion will have 11 new companies, while 13 Israeli companies remained on the waiting list.

Asia is Israel’s second-largest market for polished diamonds representing about 35 percent of total polished diamond exports, with the greatest share going to Hong Kong. Last year, Israel’s polished diamond exports to Hong Kong totaled $1.6 billion. Israel is also a major supplier of polished diamonds to China, India, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan and other Asian markets.

IDI's chairman, Moti Ganz, said that the industry was expecting the June Hong Kong show to be a successful one. “Based on our experience at the Hong Kong show in March, we look forward to a great deal of interest and brisk business at this show,” he said.

IDI's managing director, Eli Avidar, said, “Asian markets, and especially Hong Kong, are very important targets for our industry. IDI organizes large national diamond pavilions at three trade shows in Hong Kong every year -- in March, June and September. There’s great interest on the part of Israeli companies to participate in these shows and our pavilions always attract a lot of buyers. We have invested great efforts at making Israeli diamantaires accessible to buyers. The Find Your Diamond feature has made diamond buying at the Israeli Diamond Pavilion easier and more efficient."

Avidar said that IDI’s office in Hong Kong is instrumental in furthering business between the two counties. He added that IDI’s Chinese-language diamond portal site, the only one of any diamond center, enables direct contacts between the Israeli industry and the region.
