RAPAPORT... The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), which is holding the 36th World Diamond Congress in Antwerp this week, reelected Ernie Blom as president for another two-year term. Members also elected Julien Drybooms as vice president, Rony Unterman as secretary-general with Michel Schonfeld as deputy and Dieter Hahn as treasurer with Harry Levy as deputy.

WFDB's executive members committee includes Rami Baron, Reuven Kaufman, Harry Levy, Nikhil Jhaveri, Anoop Metha, Peter Meeus, Sergey Oulin, Alex Popov, Lin Qiang and Shmuel Schnitzer.

During working sessions, WFDB committees finalized an agreement with the Borsa Istanbul to work together in developing the diamond market in Turkey and  to launch the World Diamond Mark. The WFDB also formally accepted and welcomed the Diamond Bourse of Canada, represented by its president, David Gavin. The Korea Diamond Bourse, represented by its president, Chang Soo Nam, was also welcomed as the 30th member bourse of the WFDB. India's Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), represented by Suresh Shah, was also confirmed as an associate member.

“This is a milestone in the history of the WFDB as we now represent 30 bourses from around the world and more than 95 percent of the world’s diamonds are now traded through a member bourse,” said Blom.

Blom further announced that the WFDB has put into place a drive to secure both producing countries and mining houses as part of the WFDB in an effort to ensure supply chain representation and to create a more efficient and coordinated industry.
