Brands Showcase Best in Diamond Jewelry at India Intl. Jewellery Week

RAPAPORT... On the third day of the India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) 2014, attendees were treated to best of branded diamond jewelry collections. The event sponsors – Nazraana from the house of Rio Tinto -- took center stage with its remarkable collections that were designed for the Indian audience. What helps Nazraana win over their Indian audience, too, is an affordable price range for the diamond pieces, which begin at less than $100.

Emerald Jewel Industry India Ltd. presented its “Athena” designer diamond collection and then there was Mahabir Danwar Jewellers and KIK Jewells, both of which showcased diamond jewelry that appealed to patrons who prefer western styles. With discreet and sophisticated sizes to match its delicate designs, Saboo Fine Jewels showcased the “Lissome Collection” of pure fine diamonds.

Additionally, IIJW's legacy of promoting young talent continued on the third day with the introduction of 28 new talented designers. Twenty-one students from the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery, Jaipur debuted their versions of ornaments that had been inspired by the City Palace Jaipur and architecture around India. The National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad presented seven students who experimented with metal for their collections, giving the medium a new creative twist through curled, swirled, folded and origami-type techniques to produce stunning bespoke jewelry.

Designer trends that emerged from the brands on the third day highlighted tassel accents for necklaces, rings, armlets and earrings, origami shapes for jewelry to create innovative forms and geometric shaping to create more abstract style statements. Still, traditional inspirations remained a popular theme as were diamonds, with the polkis and uncut. Carved deities and religious symbols are a favorite choice with designers and pearls offered stiff competition to precious gems at times overpowering them in the ornaments. Rough emeralds and rubies provided a very natural form of complement to diamonds in designer jewelry. Finally, Haath Phool and Maang Tikkas were offered in simple as well as complex designs.
