Japan's July Polished Imports -12%

RAPAPORT... Japan’s polished diamond imports declined 12 percent year on year to $69.4 million in July, ‎Momozawa reported, citing the Finance Ministry. By volume, polished imports fell 27 percent to 149,353 carats, while the average price of diamonds rose 20 percent to $465 per carat.

Polished diamond imports from India dropped 10 percent during July to $33.7 million, while imports from Belgium declined 14 percent to $14.1 million. Polished imports from Israel fell 14 percent to $7.8 million, while imports from Hong Kong dropped 11 percent to $4.9 million.

During the first seven months of 2014, Japan's polished imports rose 5 percent year on year to $514.3 million, while the volume of goods decreased 16 percent to 1.155 million carats.
