Press Release: Luxeford’s autumn fine jewels auction was held in November, attracting clients and industry buyers from Hong Kong, across Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Japan, as well as from the U.S. and Europe. An enticing array of luxurious, high-quality items was offered. Lot 993, a set of colored diamonds and diamond jewelry, was sold for $149,000 (HKD 1.152 million). As one highlight from a private collection, the sophisticated set of colored diamonds and diamond jewelry presented nine principal diamonds, ranging from fancy purplish-pink to fancy deep-pink, weighing from 1.12-carats to 0.38-carat. Lot 1071, a fine-looking unheated vivid pink Ceylon sapphire and diamond ring, fetched $112,000 (HKD 864,000). The ring of bombé design centered upon the oval-cut gem of a rare size at 11.00 carats. The gorgeous stone is stylishly enhanced by the brilliant-cut diamond border, baguette-cut diamond shoulders and pavé-set brilliant-cut diamond dome to the half-hoop. Lot 997, a pair of delicately intense vivid emerald-green jadeite and diamond earrings, sold for $84,000 (HKD 648,000). The finely transparent but beautifully compact jadeite cabochons of "lao keng" genus (‘老坑玻璃種’) were another highlighted lot in this auction. Other magnificent pieces sold included lot 929, a delicately classy 8.14-carat unheated Ceylon Padparadscha sapphire and diamond ring, at $68,000 (HKD 528,000); lot 1061, a 9.84-carat Colombian emerald and diamond ring, at $53,000 (HKD 408,000), and lot 943, a set of jadeite and diamond jewelry, which attracted fierce competition and sold for over three times the low estimate at $19,000 (HKD 144,000).
With the festive season approaching, red and rosy hues appeared to be the favorites of many buyers. For instance, lot 1032, an approximately 4.64-carat unheated Tajikistan vivid red (GRS type pigeon’s blood) ruby and diamond ring, sold at $28,000 (HKD 216,000) and lot 1082, a pair of approximately 9.83- and 8.06-carat unheated Burmese star ruby and diamond earrings, sold at $23,000 (HKD 180,000). Designs of classic through to modern chic were equally well received. Lots 1003 and 1004, a pair of "Tickle Me Feather" black resin earrings, in limited edition, and a pair of "Carnaval a Venise" titanium and glass earrings, both by the brilliantly creative Paris-based designer JAR (Joel Arthur Rosenthal), were sold at $7,000 (HKD 54,000) and $3,400 (HKD 26,400), respectively. Classic designs such as lot 1088, a 22-carat diamond rivière sold for $28,000 (HKD 216,000), while lot 1104, an alluring natural pearl, ruby and diamond necklace, sold for $26,000 (HKD 204,000).
