RAPAPORT... Indian jewelry manufacturer and marketer Rajesh Exports reported sales rose about four-fold in the second quarter, pushing up net profit by 75 percent.

Revenue surged to $6.7 billion (INR 443.2 billion) in the three-month period that ended September 30, the company said in a statement. Net profit climbed to $43.3 million as expenses advanced to $6.6 billion.

The company said in its statement second-quarter results included revenue and profit figures for August and September from metal refining group Valcambi, which Rajesh acquired for $400 million at the end of July. In the half year to September, revenue roughly trebled to $9 billion, while net profit soared 86 percent to $78.2 million.

“This quarter has been a record-breaking quarter for the company since inception,” chairman Rajesh Mehta said in the statement. “The acquisition of Valcambi has proven to be path-breaking as the company has emerged as a truly global company and the largest gold company in the world.”
