RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) released a program of its activities at two trade shows in Tucson, Arizona, in February.

The organization will offer gem identification and country-of origin services at the AGTA GemFair through the GIA Show Service Laboratory, accepting gemstones on-site from February 1 to 7.

It will offer a free seminar on February 5 giving the latest news from GIA’s research. Three fee-based classes are scheduled between February 1 and 6 for which preregistration is required, comprising a diamond-grading laboratory class, a seminar on gemstone-treatment identification and another session on identifying diamond treatment. The GIA will also exhibit a collection of yellow gems entitled “Striking Gold!” from February 2 to 7.

The GIA Alumni Association's annual auction, dinner and dance party will be held February 5 at the Marriott University Park Hotel in Tucson. GIA experts will also be available through the AGTA GemFair to answer questions on a range of topics.

At the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show (TGMS) from February 11 to 14, the GIA will put on an exhibition of blue gems and jewelry, “Mother Nature Sings the Blues,” to coincide with the show’s “Shades of Blue: Minerals of the World” theme. Other features will include a show of books giving insights into the library’s recent digitization project.
