RAPAPORT... Turkish exchange Borsa Istanbul signed an agreement with the World Diamond Mark Foundation (WDM) to “institutionalize” diamond trading in Turkey and other markets with which the bourse is connected.

The deal “cements the cooperation” between the diversified Istanbul bourse and the WDM, according to a WDM statement January 18.

"As the gateway for trade between Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Turkey, by means of Borsa Istanbul and a significant number of third parties, will play an important role as a WDM ambassador,” said Alex Popov, chairman of the WDM, which was set up in 2012 by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses to boost consumer demand for diamonds and diamond jewelry.

Separately, the WDM announced January 18 that it will hold a seminar entitled “What consumers expect retailers to know about diamonds” at the VICENZAORO January 2016 fair in Vicenza, Italy, on January 25 from 10 to 11 a.m. The trade show runs from January 22 to 27.
