RAPAPORT... The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) has
appointed the Natural History Museum’s Alan Hart as its new
chief executive officer.
Hart, who will start at Gem-A June 1, joined the London museum
in 1981, and since 2012 he has been both principal curator of gems and minerals
and head of earth sciences collections. He is also chair of the museum’s
collections committee and serves on various executive boards, according to a
Gem-A statement March 21.
Miranda Wells, who has also been appointed the new chair of
the Gem-A Council, replacing Nigel Israel, said Hart’s professional background
“provides broad experience in both mineralogical and gemological circles, as
well as a clear and deep understanding of the structure and position of Gem-A
as an organization and premier educational institution.”
Gem-A has been without a permanent CEO since James Riley resigned
in July last year, with Nick
Jones serving as interim chief.
