ALROSA Joins Responsible Jewellery Council

RAPAPORT... ALROSA has signed up for the Responsible Jewellery Council
(RJC), implying it will undergo an independent audit of its operations within
two years to gain RJC certification.
The appraisal covers finance and legal compliance, as well
as ethical criteria such as anti-corruption measures, human rights, labor
conditions social responsibility and environmental protection.
"Consumers around the world are
giving great importance to the origin of diamonds in jewelry,” said Andrey Polyakov, ALROSA’s vice president (pictured).
“We believe it is important to demonstrate to the consumer that diamond mining
is a socially responsible business that creates jobs, supports local
communities and cares about the environment. ALROSA has always adhered to high
standards of corporate social responsibility and is ready to prove it in the
audit process.”
ALROSA has joined fellow diamond
miners De Beers, Dominion Diamond Corporation, Rio Tinto and Lucara Diamond
Corp in signing up for membership. The RJC’s body of members comprises more
than 800 companies from across the diamond industry.
