RAPAPORT... A “highly important” green jadeite bangle is slated to be the most valuable item at Sotheby’s jewelry auction in Hong Kong next month, drawing an estimate of up to $9 million (HKD 70 million).

The vivid emerald-green bangle is a rare example of “jadeite of the best quality,” Sotheby’s said, adding that jadeite bangles are “exceedingly scarce.” Its lower estimate is $6.5 million.

Other lots at the Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite on October 4 are a pear-shaped, 6.59-carat, fancy intense purple-pink, internally flawless (IF) diamond ring, which is expected to fetch $5.3 million to $6.4 million, or up to $977,921 per carat. The center stone is accented with pear-shaped and round diamonds, mounted in 18 karat white gold.

In addition, a Harry Winston diamond necklace with a total carat weight of 177.51 carats will be up for bids, estimated at $5.4 million (HKD 42 million) to $6.2 million, or up to $34,853 per carat. The cascade necklace features nine pear-shaped, D-color, IF diamonds mounted in platinum.

Separately, Sotheby’s will auction an oval-shaped, 27.38-carat, D-color, VS2 diamond at its Important Jewels auction in New York on September 22. The piece is estimated to fetch $2 million to $2.5 million, or up to $91,308 per carat. The auction will also feature a cushion-cut, 30.71-carat, fancy intense yellow diamond, VS1, accented by 0.80 carats of round diamonds, slated to draw $675,000 to $775,000.
