RAPAPORT... ALROSA’s rough diamond sales increased to $435 million in
September amid stronger demand and mirroring results from rival miner De Beers.
Polished sales stood at $18.9 million, taking group sales to
$454 million, the Russia-based company said.
“As expected, we saw good demand in almost all categories of
rough diamonds. Sales were significantly over our September 2015 figures,”
ALROSA’s vice-president Yury Okoemov said.
The results come after De Beers reported
higher revenue than it expected in its eighth cycle this year, which included
the September sight. Rough sales soared 57 percent to $485 million from last
year’s slump, according to Rapaport News records, as trading conditions improved in the
midstream.
ALROSA’s August sales were also much
higher than a year ago as the seasonal dip expected at that time of the year
was absent.
