Trans Hex Rough Sales Fetch $895/ct.

RAPAPORT... Diamond miner Trans Hex reported sales of $14.7 million (ZAR
201.1 million) at three recent tenders of rough stones from its wholly owned
operations in South Africa.
The sales in October, December and February fetched an
average price of $895 per carat for 16,447 carats, the Cape Town-based company
said. Six diamonds sold for more than $10,000 per carat each, including a
4-carat stone from the Baken mine in South Africa, which garnered $27,245 per
carat.
Sales for West Coast Resources, in which Trans Hex holds a
40-percent stake, amounted to $6.1 million at an average
price of $158 per carat.
Separately, five sales of goods from Angola’s Somiluana mine
since September yielded $30.2 million at an average price of $521 per carat.
Trans Hex owns a third of the asset.
The next sale of production from the South African
operations will take place in March. Sales of diamonds from Somiluana occur
monthly.
Production at the South African mines came to 11,356 carats
for the four months that ended January 31. Output from West Coast Resources was
26,030 carats in the same period, while Somiluana accounted for a further
31,460 carats.
