RAPAPORT... The American Gem Society (AGS) has presented former head Cathy Calhoun with its prestigious Robert M. Shipley Award for her service to the organization and the wider industry.

Calhoun, of Calhoun Jewelers, served as AGS president between 2010 and 2012, overseeing its full takeover of AGS Laboratories. She is currently a board member at the Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company — where she also chairs the investment committee — as well as at Jewelers for Children, the Diamond Empowerment Fund and Jewelers of America.

“Cathy is an icon in our industry. She’s contributed her time, energy and incredible ideas to the American Gem Society and other important jewelry organizations — and she has done all of it without compensation, as a volunteer,” said Fred Weber, chairman of the committee responsible for selecting the Shipley winner.

“AGS is fortunate to enjoy a culture of dedicated members, and Cathy is a perfect example,” he added. “She’s made a positive impact in all of her endeavors for her community and the jewelry industry.”

Calhoun received the award during the annual AGS Conclave last week in Hollywood, California.
