Judge to Review Signet Workplace Policies

RAPAPORT... Signet Jewelers has appointed former federal judge Barbara Jones to review its policies on equal opportunities and workplace expectations, the jeweler said Wednesday.

The move follows a report last month in the Washington Post about alleged claims of sexual harassment and discrimination at Signet’s Sterling Jewelers division, which encompasses the Kay Jewelers and Jared brands. Signet shares fell 10% in the days following the report and were down 30% since the beginning of the year at press time.

In the aftermath, Signet established a new board committee focusing on respect in the workplace, and the committee recruited Jones to conduct the review.

Jones, currently a partner at Bracewell LLP, has had a long career in matters relating to workplace compliance issues, Signet explained.

“Judge Jones will help us ensure our programs are functioning as intended and to identify areas where we can further improve,” said Signet director Helen McCluskey, who chairs the committee.

Earlier this week, Signet published its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report outlining its practices regarding, among other things, its more than 4,200 employees, responsible sourcing, environmental stewardship, and its charitable endeavors.
