RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corp. has appointed Naseem Lahri as the first female managing director of its Boteti Mining subsidiary, which owns the high-value Karowe mine.

“I am delighted to be welcoming Naseem into her new role as managing director of Boteti, the first woman and the first Motswana woman to serve in this capacity for a diamond company in Botswana,” Lucara CEO Eira Thomas said Tuesday. “Naseem combines the skills, experience and depth of knowledge to ably lead our business interests in Botswana, and I am confident that under her stewardship, the maximum, long-term value of our Karowe diamond mine will be realized.”

Lahri has been the chief financial officer and director at Boteti for the past five years. She has over 17 years of experience in the mining industry, and has served on the boards of the Debswana Pension Fund, the Botswana Accountancy College and Pula Medical Aid.

As managing director, Lahri will continue to be responsible for finance, administration and security. Additionally, she will oversee all aspects of the business, and work with general manager Johane Mchive to help improve performance at Karowe.

Lucara’s Karowe asset is known for producing large stones, including the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona and the 813-carat Constellation.
