RAPAPORT... Alrosa sold $10.7 million worth of rough at a large-stone auction in Hong Kong, the Russian miner said Tuesday.

The 136 diamonds — each over 10.8 carats — weighed a combined 2,234 carats, including 25 fancy-yellow stones, and fetched an average price of $4,790 per carat. The auction took place during the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair.

Companies from Hong Kong, mainland China, Belgium, Israel and India participated in the auction, Alrosa said.

According to Russian law, rough diamonds above 10.8 carats from the nation’s mines can only be sold at auction.
