RAPAPORT... Jewelry sales at Christie’s garnered a combined $492.3
million this year, driven by expensive blue and pink diamonds.
The company’s top-selling piece was the Winston Pink Legacy,
a rectangular-cut, 18.96-carat, fancy-vivid-pink diamond, which sold in Geneva
last month for $50.4 million. Other top lots for the year included a
pear-shaped, 8.01-carat, fancy-vivid-blue, internally flawless diamond necklace
by Moussaieff, which went for $20.5 million in Hong Kong in May.
A cushion-cut, 8.08-carat, fancy-vivid-blue Bulgari diamond
ring rounded out the top three, fetching $18.3 million in New York last week.
The 2018 total is below the $556.7 million Christie’s
reported for last year. That figure included the 14.93-carat Pink Promise, which
sold for $32.2 million, and the Art of de Grisogono emerald and diamond
necklace — featuring a 163.41-carat center diamond — which fetched $33.7
million.
