Retail shares strengthened as US-China trade talks supported investor confidence. Macy’s (+5%) led the sector in a week that saw record highs for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (+1.2%) and the S&P 500 (+1.6%). The cooling of tensions between Washington and Beijing also boosted Hong Kong equities, with Chow Sang Sang (+4%) and Luk Fook (+3%) gaining. Mining stocks were mixed, with Firestone Diamonds (-7%) heading the declines, while Alrosa (+3.4%) climbed.
