Gem Diamonds has unearthed a high-quality, 233-carat, type II diamond from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho, the company said Tuesday

The discovery is the fifth rough stone over 100 carats that Letšeng has yielded this year, according to Rapaport records. It follows that of a 442-carat, type II diamond that was recovered on August 23, the company said Tuesday. That stone is one of the largest gem-quality rough diamonds found this year, Gem Diamonds claimed.

The miner also recovered a yellow diamond weighing 163 carats in June, a 114-carat, D-color in March, and a 183-carat, type IIa rough in February.
