Grib Diamonds has signed up for Sarine Technologies’ provenance program, enabling the Antwerp-based trader to provide source verification for the rough it offers.

Grib, which sells rough from AGD Diamonds’ Grib mine in Russia, will use the traceability information to complement the Sarine technology it already offers customers, the Israel-based equipment provider said Wednesday. These include mapping of flaws in high-value diamonds, as well as planning solutions that help manufacturers know how best to cut a stone.

“Consumer demand for sustainably sourced, traceable diamonds is increasing rapidly, and we believe that the transparency provided by technology-based tracking is the best solution to respond to this challenge and enable our industry to continue prospering,” said Grib managing director Igor Prokhorenko.
