Gem Diamonds has recovered a 245-carat rough from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho, its third 100-carat-plus stone in three weeks.

The “exceptional-quality,” white, type IIa diamond was unearthed at the site on June 11, Gem Diamonds said Monday. The discovery closely follows that of a high-quality, 125-carat diamond on May 31 and a high-quality, 129-carat diamond on May 23.

The discoveries indicate a return to strength in the recovery of large stones for which Gem Diamonds is known. Last year, the miner unearthed six stones over 100 carats from Letšeng, compared to 16 in 2020.
