RAPAPORT... Japan department store operator Takashimaya plans to sell a toy teddy bear for Christmas season with a price tag of 20.06 million yen (about $170,800.) In local currency the figure celebrates the end of calendar year 2006.
The teddy bear is approximately 3-feet in length and it comes with a 9.54 carat diamond tiara, with another 2.71 carats of pink sapphires. The diamond tiara is about 21 million yen the company told the press. Takashimaya also plans to sell a smaller teddy bear with a tiara of only 3.30 carats of diamonds for 5.25 million yen. The diamond teddies will only be available in Tokyo's Nihombashi district beginning November 1, 2006. Teddy bears without tiaras will be available in all stores nationwide.
