RAPAPORT... J.C.Penney announced its after-Christmas sale, which will include some fairly heavy discounts. The retailer contends that this sale will be its largest to date. JCPenney stores will open at 5:30 a.m. on December 26; the company plans to release a number of circulars and coupons on December 23, which can be used on December 26 and 27.

As a follow-up to JCPenney's "Get out of the Doghouse" diamond campaign, which Rapaport News reported about on November 21 when the story first broke, the retailer now plans to reduce its entire stock of diamond jewelry 50 percent. JCPenney also plans a 50 percent sale on gemstones and cultured pearls, 40 percent off already-reduced clearance prices on fine jewelry and watches, 70 percent off gold and fine sterling sliver jewelry, and 50 percent off JCPenney's entire stock of moissanite.
