RAPAPORT... Interpol reported that a suspected member of the Pink Panther gang was arrested in Cyprus following an indentity check by local police. Rifat Hadziahmetovic, from Montenegro, was attempting to travel using a forged passport.

“This arrest is yet again an example of the results which can be achieved by law enforcement around the world sharing information through Interpol, which can then be followed up by police on the ground,” said Jean-Michel Louboutin, Interpol’s executive director of police services. “The Cypriot law enforcement authorities should be commended for their thorough work on this arrest, as well as the Interpol member countries involved and staff at the General Secretariat, in ensuring that the identifying information on this suspect was available when and where it was needed.”

Fingerprint checks positively identified Hadziahmetovic, 41, who is wanted for armed robberies and thefts of goods worth millions of dollars that took place in Bahrain, Japan, Spain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Pink Panther gang was allegedly involved in a number of high-profile international jewelry heists valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
