RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corp. has launched production at its Mothae mine in Lesotho and expects to achieve its plant capacity within 45 days. The company explained that upgrades to the recovery plant at Mothae were completed on time and within budget, allowing for operations to commence there in late May.

Lucara's president William Lamb, said the company will hold its first tender of Mothae diamonds in the fourth quarter of 2010.

“This is a major milestone for the company,” Lamb said. “The diamond information which will be collected during the trial mining phase is essential for Lucara as we drive Mothae forward.”

The company noted that all of its diamond recovery units are functioning well and that provisional audit work on x-ray tailings indicated a high level of recovery efficiency, a key objective of the plant upgrade.

Lucara has two diamond mines in development: Mothae and the AK6 project in Botswana.
