RAPAPORT... Tractech System’s radio frequency identification (RFID) inventory system, which has been developed for wholesalers and dealers is now on the market.  The  company plans to eventually develop the product suite for the retail sector.

The RFID system, which includes a reader box, a tag printer and special ID tags with computer chips and antennas, is customized for each client, with a third-party software company involved in the development of software-specific and computer system needs.

Software programs for the RFID system can be written to include “control” and “discrepancy” reports, so that companies can check who accessed their inventory and keep track of each of their items. ''While it does not completely stop thievery, it definitely does minimize it,'' said Tim Murphy, the vice president of sales and marketing at Trac Tech.

A hand held version of the RFID inventory system is currently in development.
