Press Release: The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will conduct a roundtable discussion on June 19, 2013 in Washington, DC to address possible revisions to the jewelry industry marketing guides. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Two subjects will be addressed at the meeting:  the marketing of alloy products containing precious metals in amounts below the guides’ minimum thresholds, and surface applications of precious metals.  The meeting is open to the public, and registration is recommended by emailing your name and affiliation to lkoss-at-ftc.gov.

The FTC invited comments on those subjects in written form, to be submitted on its website and due June 5, 2013.  The list of issues about which the FTC is seeking comments is available on line at:   http://ftc.gov/os/2013/04/130430jewelryguides.pdf

On September 28, 2012 the Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC)  and several trade associations filed comments with the FTC regarding revisions to the guides on a wide array of subjects, including gemstone disclosure.
