IDMA Cancels Istanbul Meeting

RAPAPORT... The International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) has canceled its president's meeting scheduled to take place in Istanbul this week. The organization cited low registration from its members in addition to security concerns in Istanbul as reasons for pulling out.
IDMA's chairman, Maxim Shkadov, and secretary general, Ronnie VanderLinden, sent an email to its members on June 12, 2013 announcing its decision to withdraw from the meeting and expressing disappointment in member's lack of interest.
"An additional consideration raised by Maxim Shkadov and Ronnie VanderLinden was that the registration of our IDMA members was nothing less than embarrassing," the memo stated.
Following numerous reminders to register for the meeting, only a few members replied, while the majority did not respond. "The immediate consequence of the absence of the majority of our members from the Istanbul meeting is that we would not have had a required quorum needed to vote on issues or even make any decisions," they said.
VanderLinden noted that although the meeting could be rescheduled, he was nonetheless disappointed that IDMA could not meet with colleagues from the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB).
