Press Release: Jewelers for Children announced a new local grants program that will be driven by independent retailers across the U.S.  Jewelers for Children set aside $100,000 to be used for 10 grants of $10,000  to local organizations.  Independent jewelers will have an opportunity to nominate a local organization to receive one of the grants.  Once a final list of nominated charities is compiled, the retailer will be responsible for motivating their constituents to vote for their charity of choice through a Facebook based campaign on Jewelers for Children's page.

It will be up to the jeweler and the nominated charities to generate interest in their organization by securing votes through their own social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, email blasts, and any other advertising opportunities available.

The nomination period for charities will begin on September 18  and will run through October 4.  The voting process will begin on October 15 and end October 30.  The top 10 vote getters will be announced on October 31 and grants will be made prior to December 31.

Each of the 10 jewelers who nominate the winning charities will be presenting the grant directly to the charity on behalf of the jewelry industry. Jewelers for Children will announce the winners and jewelers to the trade and will be supplying a press release template for each jeweler to secure local (and possibly, national) recognition for their success in their own market.

"The local grants program presents a fantastic opportunity for local, independent jewelers to become heroes in their communities,''  said Ruth Batson, the vice president for charity programs for Jewelers for Children. ''Ten well-deserving organizations will have an opportunity to grow their programs thank to their local jeweler."

Details on how to participate in the program and the requirements for nominated charities can be found at www.jewelersforchildren.org, under the ''Happenings'' section.  Retailers will find a form to print, complete and return to Jewelers for Children to nominate their local charity for consideration.

Jewelers for Children was founded in 1999 by the U.S. jewelry industry with the mission of helping children in need. Since its inception, it has donated nearly $43 million to programs benefiting children whose lives have been affected by illness, abuse or neglect. This nationwide success is due to the continuing generosity of jewelry trade organizations, jewelry and watch manufacturing companies, jewelry retail stores, individual jewelry professionals and jewelry consumers.
