RAPAPORT...  Police in Tampa, Florida continue to search for several suspects in a smash-and-grab robbery that took place earlier this week at Mayors jewelers at the upscale International Plaza shopping mall.

At approximately 4:01 p.m. on December 30, the department received a 911 call that a robbery occurred in the Rolex display section that is connected to the Mayors jewelry store. The suspects used a sledgehammer to break the display glass and in so doing, apparently caused such noise that shoppers believed gunshots were being fired and panic spread throughout the mall.  The police activated a full active-shooter response and evacuated the mall.

During the initial investigation, officers determined that three black male suspects entered the store, shattered the display case and stole numerous high-value items and then fled the property through the garage and left the scene in a gray Dodge Ram Sport pickup truck.

Police recovered the vehicle, which had been stolen earlier in the day, and they suspect the robbers carefully cased Mayors before planning their attack.
