RAPAPORT... The upcoming Jewelry Industry Summit secured its first sponsor,  the JA New York Show, which will provide registration services and  the use of its discounted hotel block to conference attendees. The event organizers also announced a date change; the summit is now scheduled  for March 10 to 13, 2016 in Manhattan, in advance of JA New York. Summit attendees will gain entry to the trade show via their registrations.

The Jewelry Industry Summit is designed to be an interactive event facilitating discussions on sustainability and responsible sourcing.  The goal is to create awareness of supply chain challenges, develop tools to take actions that  benefit the jewelry industry, create business opportunities and open new sources of value for suppliers and the consumer to ensure that the industry will thrive in the 21st century.

Organizers have also launched a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo.com to pay for planning (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/jewelry-industry-summit/x/10342414).  Summit registration can be purchased at a discount for registration on that website.

Eric Braunwart of Columbia Gem House and a member of the summit's planning committee, said, “We are pleased to welcome the JA New York Show as a sponsor and appreciate the assistance of their expert and experienced operations arm.  We are also happy to schedule our summit at a time and place with which many important representatives in the jewelry industry are already familiar.    Crowd funding now is vital – and we urge supporters of the summit to donate to our Indiegogo campaign to ensure that the planning effort is successful.”

The summit planning committee will hold a briefing on the event on May 31 at 11 a.m. during the JCK show, Mandalay Bay Convention Center, third floor, Outriggers Ballroom.

In addition to Braunwart, other members of the planning committee  include Ann Arnold of BIG – Buyers Intelligence Group; Lita Asscher of Royal Asscher; Anna Bario of Bario Neal; Robert Bentley of Robert Bentley Company; Mihir Bhansali of Firestar Diamond Inc.; Edward Boehm of Rare Source; David Bouffard of Signet Jewelers Ltd.;  Lisa Bridge of Ben Bridge Jeweler; Bruce Bridges of Bridges Tsavorite; Brandee Dallow of Rio Tinto Diamonds; Bill Farmer of Farmer’s Jewelry; Jeffrey Fischer of Fischer Diamonds Inc.; Rebecca Foerster of Leo Schachter Diamonds LLC; Karen Goracke of Borsheim’s; Stewart Grice of Hoover and Strong; Mark Hanna of Richline Group; Hayley Henning of True North Gems and Steve Hodgkins of Rolex USA.
